Italy is one of the most suitable markets within the EU for shipment transport, as it offers, due to a very favorable trade balance between Slovakia and Italy, many capacities and transport solutions from which clients can choose the most suitable.
Whether it is the transport of partial or full loads, with edysea there are always solutions at hand.
However, August is a problematic period for shipment transport within Italy, as Italian companies typically take holidays, causing complications in finding transport solutions. From July onwards, the supply of shipments exceeds the number of available capacities, resulting in increasing transport prices. In August, due to these holidays, it is problematic to transport shipments. Therefore, our advice to you is to plan your transport in June and early July if possible, and avoid this problematic period and higher transport prices.
After contacting edysea and providing the necessary input data, the client receives a price calculation for the transport of their shipment (whether as a full truckload or partial shipment – for import or export), and after accepting the offer, the actual transport planning can begin.
Subsequently, the transport itself can be carried out, during which the client is informed daily about the movement of the shipment.
Info: Email reporting on shipment movement is a highly valued service by edysea clients. Information about the vehicle arriving for loading, its subsequent movement, and the estimated transit or delivery time to Italy allow the client to plan further operations while having a sense of security and confidence.
Partial shipments via groupage line or as a co-load to Italy or from Italy is a standard service provided for our clients. The biggest advantage is, of course, cost savings for the client, who doesn’t have to pay for the entire capacity but only for the part being used. In general, the service is suitable for clients who don’t need to deliver their shipments JIT or via express.
On the other hand, the disadvantage of this type of shipment transport is a slightly longer delivery time, which depends on the groupage vehicle’s itinerary, and also the inability to plan shipment delivery for an exact date.
When calculating transport costs, we work with multiple inputs affecting pricing, but not all of them can be influenced. Whether it’s transport distance, seasonality, input costs, or specifics of transport to Italy – these are factors we cannot change. Therefore, it is advisable to focus on packaging your shipment with attention to maximum optimization of transport dimensions – since besides weight, volume is another indicator for calculating the transport price. It is also recommended to plan your shipment transport well in advance so there is sufficient time to find the most suitable solution at an optimal price. Our company operates hundreds of capacities that are ready every day to deliver your shipment in both directions. In general, the transit time from Slovakia to Italy and from Italy to Slovakia depends on the specific destination and type of transport capacity.
The trade balance between Slovakia and Italy is at a high level, with the main place of supply and demand being the northern, so-called industrial part of the country. Italy also has well-developed infrastructure, which enables us to deliver shipments efficiently to all parts of the country.
Freight transport to Italy within the country:
The North of the country is the most penetrated when it comes to transporting shipments to and from Italy. Specifically, the areas of Milan, Vicenza, Verona, Piacenza, Turin, or Parma, Modena and Bologna. It can be said that within our company’s transports, this territory represents more than 80% of executed transports.
The Central part of the country, represented by cities such as Florence, Terni, Rome, Grosseto, or Pesaro is already among the less common destinations, and the number of shipments on the route to or from Italy for this territory is significantly less than in the northern part.
The South of the country, represented by Naples, Bari, Salerno, Lecce or even islands such as Sicily and Sardinia, is delivered occasionally. Similarly in import or export.

Italy is a country with a strong transport network that includes more than 487,700 km of roads and 20,000 km of railway lines. Road transport dominates, with most goods moving on motorways and expressways that connect the most important industrial and commercial centers. Rail transport is particularly important for heavier loads and longer distance transport.
Sea transport to Italy is carried out through major ports such as Genoa, Naples, and Venice, which allows efficient delivery of maritime shipments from around the world. Italian airports such as Milan Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino, and Bologna Guglielmo Marconi are strategic points for air transport of express shipments.
Delivery times, whether for export to Italy or import from Italy, vary and also depend on the chosen type of transport. In the case of express shipments, deliveries are made even in a day-to-day mode, at least for northern and central Italy. For southern areas of the country, it is a maximum of plus 1 day.
In the case of regular full truck loads to and from Italy, delivery times are day-to-day plus 1-1.5 days.
In the case of partial load solutions, it is in the range of 1-4 days, and in the case of groupage services, it can be up to 6-7 days, depending on the chosen groupage line.
